Equine

Stewartry Vets are members of the British Equine Veterinary Association

At The Stewartry Veterinary Centre, we offer a full range of vet services for large animals such as horses, including:
  • Laboratory investigations
  • Geriatric blood profiles
  • Strangles investigation
  • Diagnostic blood samples to test for equine diseases such as Cushings
  • Faecal worm egg counts
  • Foalings
At The Stewartry Veterinary Centre, we understand that foaling can be a stressful time for both the mare and her owner. If you are concerned about your pregnant mare and would like some advice, don't hesitate to call us. If necessary, we’ll come out to examine her and, if she's ready, we’ll help you with the foaling.

We also offer annual vaccinations against flu and tetanus. All horses should be protected against both these diseases.

In addition, we offer passport and microchipping services as all horses in the UK are now legally required to have a passport to confirm that owners will not allow their horse to enter the human foodchain. This means that all horses must now also be microchipped before a passport can be issued.

We’re there when you need us, should you require an out-of-hours vet for any emergency. We also have a large animal treatment room at our Castle Douglas Surgery and are members of the British Equine Veterinary Association.
